What is the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board?
The Metropolitan Cemeteries Board is a statutory authority of the Government of Western Australia. The Board operates under the provisions of the Cemeteries Act 1986.
What is an online memorial?
An online memorial is a web page (or several pages) devoted to
commemorating a person who has passed away.
What is Memories e-ternal?
This is the name of the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board’s online memorial
website.
Why should I consider purchasing an online memorial?
Online memorial websites are becoming increasingly popular around the
world. Online memorials are a cost-effective way to share your memories of someone special with
friends and family around Australia and the globe. You can visit an online memorial at any time of
the day or night, from the privacy of your home or other convenient place, and take time for
quiet reflection and remembrance.
Will online memorials replace physical memorials?
Many people will continue to establish physical memorials in cemeteries
and memorial gardens, in private gardens and other locations. However, recognising that many
mourners cannot visit these memorial locations in person due to distance or physical restrictions, an online memorial may
be purchased in addition to, or instead of, a physical memorial.
What features can appear on an online memorial?
In this updated version of Memories e-ternal, you can arrange for photos or other images, text, audio and video.
Text may range from prayers to poems and devotions, biographies and eulogies. Audio may be a favourite song, music or other sound recordings, while video may be excerpts from family videos or even excerpts from the funeral service, if this service was recorded or webcast by the MCB.
Your online memorial will also feature a password
protected guestbook. You may provide the password to selected family and friends to enable them
to leave thoughts and tributes to the deceased.
How can I establish an online memorial on the Memories e-ternal
website?
Go to the Submit a Memorial link on this website and follow the
instructions. Once you have accepted our Terms and Conditions, you will be prompted to print out and complete an application form. Once we receive your form, payment and memorial materials (you may post them in or bring them in person to our Karrakatta office, we'll create your online memorial.
We will require full payment in advance before proceeding to create your memorial. Payment may be made by credit card, cheque, money order or cash.
Once your online memorial is ready, we'll provide you with your memorial pages. If you are on email, these will be emailed
to you. If not, they will be mailed to you. You will be asked to check your pages, and once you are satisfied with the material, your online memorial will be published on the Memories e-ternal website.
For how long will my online memorial remain on the MCB
website?
The term is for 25 years from the date you accept the Terms and
Conditions.
On behalf of the Government of Western Australia, the
Metropolitan Cemeteries Board is responsible for managing
cemeteries at Karrakatta, Fremantle, Pinnaroo, Guildford
and Midland as well as maintaining and preserving heritage
and historical records dating back more than 100 years.
Memories e-ternal is a new dimension to the services
we provide to the Western Australian community.
If I should wish to remove my memorial from the website, will I
receive a partial refund for the unused period?
Monies are not refundable once your online memorial has been created and published.
Will I have any control over the comments placed in the
guestbook?
When you purchase your online memorial you will be supplied with a
password. You may supply this password to selected family and friends at your
discretion.
The password will enable visitors to enter new comments. Existing
comments cannot be changed or deleted by visitors.
If you should wish to delete or change a comment, simply contact the
Metropolitan Cemeteries Board and we will remove it from the guestbook.
